Trying to build sqwebmail from source, I get

configure: error: pcre.h not found - install PCRE from www.pcre.org

when running configure.

So I research the problem on the net and find find out that someone had
exactly the same problem in 2007. That someone was me! problem and
solution can be found at
http://courier-mail-server.10983.n7.nabble.com/FreeBSD-6-2-SQWebmail-doesn-t-configure-can-t-find-pcre-td20158.html

But the fix which worked in 2007 doesn't work in 2013 :(

Since configure still uses CPPFLAGS and LDFLAGS, I suspect my problem is
linked to fact that I'm trying to build this on an amd64. I have no good
reason for this other than having encountered minor amd64 difficulties
such as unavailability of packages & stuff (the reason I am using
FreeBSD 8.3 instead of 9.1 is because of such difficulties and I went
back to 8.3 hoping that was more stable).

I hope all this is obvious to someone. I can't try building from ports
because that has already failed (I don't have a pcre.h problem, but when
I try to use sqwebmail he says the system is unavailable and to try
again later).

TIA
Bernard Higonnet
